Therefore, there is no smart contract requirement to create or interact with these assets. As a result, the transaction fees are low.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, Cardano\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cardanos-babel-fees-mechanism-allow-users-to-pay-transaction-fees-in-native-tokens\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Babel Feed mechanism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allows paying transaction fees in user-defined tokens (assets). This is unseen in most chains, including Ethereum, where transaction fees are paid only using the network\u2019s native token.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Ethereum<\/b><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Ethereum, new digital assets are created using smart contracts. These tokens must adhere to the ERC (Ethereum Request for Comments) standards. ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 are some popular asset types on the Ethereum network.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transacting with these assets requires users to pay network fees, which is done in Ether (ETH). However, ETH by itself does not conform to any ERC standard.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To create a token on the Ethereum network, developers must deploy smart contracts. Once live, the smart contract can no longer be altered by anyone, including the creator.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>ADA vs ETH<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Staking Mechanism<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Cardano<\/b><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While both Cardano and Ethereum are based on a PoS model, there are some significant differences in the way staking is handled.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While staking is aimed at incentivizing the honest participation of validators in a PoS-based consensus network, <\/span><b>there is no slashing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a form of penalty imposed on malicious actors in the network) in Cardano.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Users can also withdraw staked ADA at any time &#8211; <\/span><b>there is no lock-up period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cardanoscan.io\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cardanoscan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more than 25 billion ADA is staked, which accounts for over 55% of the maximum supply.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cardano has one of the largest numbers of staking pools. This is because the protocol lowers staking rewards as the number of ADA staked in a pool rises. Thus, validators are incentivized to create new pools, and delegators are encouraged to stake in different pools.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Ethereum<\/b><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staking on Ethereum requires users to lock up their ETH for a specific period. The minimum staking amount is 32 ETH, and the rewards depend on the amount staked.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to <\/span><b>slashing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Ethereum also has a concept called \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hackmd.io\/@9MPvD9czTQS18zEjAERVAg\/BkPfkQq4K\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inactivity leakage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u2019 which <\/span><b>penalizes inactive validators<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That means validators need to be online and actively participating in the network in order to receive staking rewards.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ethereum network currently has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/beaconcha.in\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over 15 million ETH staked<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of staking pools is much less compared to Cardano. For perspective, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/beaconcha.in\/pools\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">over 70%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of staked ETH is concentrated in just five pools.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Tokenomics<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Cardano<\/b><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><b>Cardano has a fixed supply of 45 billion ADA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is created through the minting process. Of this, about 31 billion ADA was pre-mined by IOHK.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the 31 billion ADA, about 26 billion was sold in ICOs, and about 2.5 billion remained with IOHK.
