BUIDL
BUIDL (a rearrangement of the word “Build” ) is a philosophical idea in the blockchain ecosystem that encourages users to learn, create, develop and evangelize solutions for the advancement of the blockchain industry instead of only speculating by holding tokens for future price increases
What is BUIDL?
Buidl is an intentional misspelling of the word “BUIDL”, similar to what “HODL” is to “Hold” in crypto. The motivation to “buidl” comes from the idea that the blockchain industry will not reach mass adoption and benefit the general population if individuals do not step up to actively contribute to its advancement.
With the BUIDL movement, crypto enthusiasts who truly believe in the future of the blockchain industry are not expected to just hold and accumulate tokens for others to build something of value that makes their tokens increase in price but instead, they are active in creating solutions using the blockchain technology.
Where Did BUIDL Come From?
One of the earliest documented uses of the term BUIDL was from Balaji Srinivasan (in 2015). It was also frequently used by some of the Coinbase team members before it became mainstream in crypto culture.
Some global blockchain hackathons and conferences have been named after the buidl movement with founders like Vitalik Buterin, Illia Polosukhin, Mo Shaikh and many other people interested in the advancement of blockchains coming together to brainstorm and learn from one another.
All major blockchain ecosystems, founders and developers now use BUIDL as a phrase of motivation to spur users to be active participants in blockchain adoption.
Joining the BUIDL Movement
Contrary to what perceive that that buidling is only for developers, it is a philosophy that cuts across all other disciplines that help push for the adoption of blockchain.
The blockchain industry is very accommodating to those interested in making contributions. By approaching people in the ecosystem and networking through platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, and Discord, users can connect with project teams and founders who need help with what they are building.
Software development is just one of the many ways to contribute to the advancement of crypto. Here are a few more ways to join the movement:
- Research: You can become a blockchain researcher by contributing to the groundbreaking innovations in the industry. To get started, you need to get familiar with the core technology that powers the blockchain such as distributed architecture, peer-to-peer systems and also learn to use tools that help with data analytics such as Google Analytics and SQL.
- Education: If you can teach people about crypto through the articles and video tutorials, there is a need for how-to guides for dApps and resources on how to develop applications using a smart contract programming language. Organizing hackathons, seminars, and conferences is also considered as
“buidling”. - Feedback and Support: Crypto applications need users to help with testing and feedback so that development teams can release the best possible version of their app to the public.
- Marketing: Through word of mouth or by organized marketing strategies, you can participate in the marketing of crypto products to those who do not yet know about them. This also comes in various forms like community management, moderation, social media marketing, etc.
- Memes: Memes are a core part of crypto’s social layer that people relate with across all ecosystems. Making artwork for projects and creating memes are considered significant ecosystem contributions.
