Bitcoin is a $1.5 trillion joke that died 477 times! 50% OFF every trade with UNBURIED50, until 6 November.

Market Update

Bitcoin has been declared dead 477 times

Somebody keeps count. A public tally at 99Bitcoins logs every article that has written Bitcoin off, and it currently stands at 477. The first entry, "Why Bitcoin can't be a currency", ran on 15 December 2010. In November 2013, Business Insider published "Bitcoin Is A Joke" with the price at $433.57. The counter kept climbing for 14 years.

Today Bitcoin trades at about $77,000. There are 20.1 million in existence, worth about $1.5 trillion together, and about $27 billion changes hands every day.

None of that says where the price goes next, and nobody should read it that way. It does put the headlines in proportion: 477 of them have called an end that has yet to arrive. What you make of that is yours to decide.

477 obituaries, and the asset they were written about is worth about $1.5 trillion. The headlines are a record of opinion; the numbers are a record of what happened.
