This country has more crypto owners than the US. Guess where. 60% OFF, code TURKEY60.
The country nobody guesses is the crypto capital of the world
Ask most people which country leads the world in crypto ownership and you'll get the same handful of guesses. The US. Maybe Japan, South Korea, somewhere with money and infrastructure.
It's Turkey. An estimated 25.6% of the population owns crypto, one of the highest ownership rates anywhere in the world, reached through a completely different path than the countries usually named first.
The reason has nothing to do with tech enthusiasm. It's the lira. Years of steep inflation have pushed ordinary Turks toward assets that don't lose value overnight, and for millions of people, that's meant crypto, especially dollar-pegged stablecoins, rather than a bank account. When your own currency loses a meaningful chunk of its value every year, a token pegged to the dollar stops looking speculative and starts looking practical.
Turkey isn't an outlier so much as the clearest example of a pattern. Countries under currency pressure consistently outrank wealthier, more stable ones on crypto ownership, a trend that shows up from Argentina to Nigeria to parts of Southeast Asia.
Adoption follows the currency under the most strain, not the country with the most money.
The crypto map, in other words, doesn't look like the map most people carry in their heads.
